Admitted Students

Congratulations on being admitted to Indiana Law! Our staff is available to help you make a smooth transition to law school. Several members of the Indiana Law community—including current students and alumni—will contact you by telephone and e-mail to answer your questions, share their Indiana Law experiences, and provide in-depth information about the Law School and the Bloomington community.

Also, you should plan to attend 1L Orientation on August 26. Class will begin on Tuesday, August 27.

What to Do Next

Follow these steps to prepare yourself for law school and living in Bloomington.

  1. Reply
We do not require a deposit to secure a place in the entering class, but you must let us know whether you intend to enroll by completing the confirmation form sent with your admissions letter by the date specified in your admission letter. The availability of positions for other applicants depends on prompt responses from those whom have already been admitted. If you do not notify us by the specified date, we will release your seat to another applicant. If more time is needed to make your decision, please let us know. It may be possible for the reply date to be extended. Please respond to our offer at lawadmis@indiana.edu.
  2. Submit Final Transcript
A final and official transcript must be forwarded to us at the end of your undergraduate work. Transcripts provided by LSAC are unofficial. The transcript should indicate all grades received, as well as the date the degree was conferred. You will not be able to register until this information is provided.
  3. Submit Photograph
The school requires a photograph to be included in your student file. This file will document your entire law school career. Send the photo with your reply to our offer of admission. Photos may be electronic; color or black-and-white.
  4. Create Network Account
We will send you a letter that identifies your Indiana University Identification Number and instructions for accessing the IU Account Management System. With this information you will be able to create a network account, e-mail address, and access registration and financial information online.
  5. Submit FAFSA
If you will be applying for federal student loans, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It is best to complete the FAFSA before March 1. You can access the FAFSA on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov and should have your 2012 income and asset information available for reference. Loan confirmations for the the 2013-2014 academic year will be sent as soon as possible. Questions can be directed to Paul Leopold, Director of Financial Aid, at pleopold@indiana.edu.
  6. Find Housing
Many students live within walking distance of Maurer--less than 15 minutes! Please visit the website of the Graduate and Professional Student Organization (GPSO) for an introduction to finding housing in Bloomington here.
  7. Join the Maurer School of Law Class of 2016 Facebook Page
There is a Facebook page for the Class of 2016. This will provide a great forum for you to meet other classmates, share information about Bloomington and housing/roommate information, etc. We will send you an email with a link!
  8. Visit the School
You are encouraged to visit the campus and attend a first-year law class. To arrange a visit, please contact the Admissions Office at 812-855-4765 or lawadmis@indiana.edu.
Spring Law Day, a welcome event for admitted JD students, will be Saturday, March 23rd, 2013. To register, click here.
  9. Meet Alumni
During the spring and summer, the Law School will host networking receptions across the country. These receptions are a great way to meet alumni, current students and future classmates from your city. Watch for e-mail invitations and annoucements.
