Brian Edge sought a legal education because he believes a career should be hewed from passion.

As an attorney with Morrison & Foerster in Washington D.C., a global firm of 1,000 attorneys, Edge used his experience as a former IBM systems analyst and a patent examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to handle trademark prosecution and opposition proceedings, patent prosecution, and technology transactional matters. He often advised entertainment law clients on production, syndication, and artist agreements. more »

Rapheal Prevot Jr.'s job is the stuff of locker room dreams: from his New York City office on Park Avenue, the 1984 graduate serves as labor relations counsel for the National Football League's management council. The job includes defending the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement and representing teams in disputes with players. The cases he works on make headlines. more »

So far, snapshots of Greg Castanias's young career form an impressive scrapbook.

Last year, the 1990 Indiana Law graduate argued two cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. As a partner with Jones Day in Washington, D.C., his counsel has played significant roles in matters such as class action suits, NAFTA investor-state arbitrations, and in intellectual property and technology matters. "Sometimes you find the best things in life in the most unlikely of places," said Diana Mercer, JD'88. For the Indianapolis native, opportunity knocked in the guise of a millennial resolution. On Jan. 1, 2000, Mercer founded Peace Talks Mediation Services, Inc. and opened the door to a new career.

Peace Talks "teams lawyers and therapists as mediators to help couples resolve divorce and custody issues in a sane, sensible, and fair way at a reasonable cost." The former divorce lawyer brought her impressive skill set and sense of purpose to Indiana Law students as a fall 2006 practitioner in residence. more »

When Bob and Sylvia Jefferies first moved to Bloomington in 1963 so that Bob, JD'66, could attend Indiana Law, the two were quite poor—so poor, in fact, they didn't own a telephone or a car. When Bob had his eye on a $150 engagement ring for Sylvia, he needed to borrow the money from his wife-to-be. "I think he borrowed $125 of it," Sylvia muses. more »

Don Dorfman grew up in Evansville, Ind., but didn't visit Bloomington until high school, when his winning basketball team came to IU's picturesque campus for a semifinals game.

"I never knew such a beautiful campus existed in Southern Indiana. I just fell in love with the School and decided that I would go to Bloomington," he says. more »

Gary Crist, JD'73

Gary Crist established a private sports and entertainment law practice in Jupiter, Fla. In addition to practicing law, he is a freelance author for several golf magazines and a frequent lecturer on sports law and related topics.

He is currently of counsel to a number of golf industry organizations, including the National Golf Foundation, the PGA TOUR Tournaments Association, the International Golf Association and Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach. more »

Although she graduated more than 10 years ago, Kathleen DeLaney is still tied to her law school professors.

"[The School of Law] is like a small community. You know the professors, they know you by name. To this day, when I'm stuck on where to go with a problem, I call some of my former professors and bounce ideas around," she said. "They're generous with their time, even though it's been a long time since I was a student." more »

John F. "Jack" Kimberling, JD'50

To call Rushville, Ind., native Jack Kimberling a "distinguished alumnus" doesn't quite cut it.

The now-retired attorney was once referred to in The American Lawyer as one of the top trial lawyers in the country. He is a leading U.S. litigation specialist, widely known as a charter member of the ABA section on litigation, a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and a veteran of two wars. more »
