Angela Karras Neboyskey, JD'00

Angela Karras Neboyskey likes to talk. And she's good at it, too. That may be one reason this 2000 Indiana Law graduate is now a serious, bustling trial lawyer specializing in products liability, professional malpractice, and commercial litigation at Swanson Martin & Bell LLP, a growing, nationally recognized litigation firm.

"Rare is a day I don't go to court. I take depositions, drive to Indiana for hearings, write briefs ... I'm just all over the place," she said. Her cases, many of which she's seen to verdict and through appeals, include high profile toxic torts cases, federal cases in Illinois and Indiana, and smaller cases in northern Indiana courtrooms. This year she delved into strengthening the firm's outreach and visibility as community relations and professional development attorney.

She's got loads to boast about, but the real reason Neboyskey just can't stop gushing may be this interview's topic of choice: Indiana University School of Law—Bloomington.

"I love IU!" she said. "I call it my second home. ...Obviously, there was the well-known faculty, beautiful campus. But the deciding factor was hands-down the people. You hear the stories about law school. Then a place like IU shows you what a positive environment and tremendous community can mean."

Six years after joining her current firm, Neboyskey still feels that visceral connection to the Indiana Law community she so relished as a student. "I feel that community maybe even more as an alumna."

Aside from meeting her husband at Indiana Law and landing her current position through a Career Services interview, Neboyskey practices with two other Indiana graduates. "You just never know when you're going to run into an IU alum," she said.

She is committed to bettering the School as a Class of 2000 agent for the Fund for Excellence, a founding member of the Chicago Alumni Network, and a member of the Law Alumni Board. "There is so much energy for the School—people fly in from everywhere," she said. "It's a perfect example of the connection - IU strikes a chord that resonates with people for their entire lives."

Maybe that's why she has so much to say. "You just take the initiative to say 'I make a commitment' and continue developing a relationship because Indiana got you where you wanted to go. We all have this one common bond, too. We were once part of that great community."
