Sylvan W. Tackitt, Class of 1933
2008 inductee to the Academy of Law Alumni Fellows.
Sylvan W. Tackitt, LLB'33, is being honored with the Golden Barrister Award for his longstanding service spanning an astounding 75 years. Tackitt, 99, can still be found working away, Monday through Friday, in an office that overlooks the Bloomington courthouse. Though his private practice in downtown Bloomington has comprised the bulk of his career, Tackitt has also worked as the Monroe County prosecuting attorney and as a government appeal agent for the Selective Service Board.
He has received numerous awards over the years, including being named a Sagamore of the Wabash. In 2005, Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan, JD'85, named June 10 "Sylvan Tackitt Day."
