Food for Thought: LLSA Lunches Promote Cultural Awareness

smiling LLSA member with food The Latino Law Student Association hosts a Food for Thought series that features lunchtime film screenings and lively discussions.

This fall, LLSA kicked off the series with Coffeebreak!, a documentary film about the coffee harvest on a farm on the borders of Nicaragua and Honduras. For farm workers, days are long and children as young as eight years-old labor in the fields to help add to family income. And while coffee prices increase, conditions for farm workers in their marginal existence remain the same.

"This event ties in with our goals of promoting cultural awareness and awareness of legal issues that currently affect the Latino community," says Moses Vejil, a current second-year student and LLSA president.

The mission of the Latino Law Student Association is to promote cultural awareness at the law school; assist in the personal and academic development of Latino students, promote student unity; represent the Latino law student interests to the law school and university; encourage and participate in the recruitment of qualified Latino law applicants; and advance awareness of legal issues affecting the Latino community.
