Admitted Students

Congratulations on being admitted to Indiana Law! Our staff is available to help you make a smooth transition to law school. Several members of the Indiana Law community—including current students and alumni—will contact you by telephone and e-mail to answer your questions, share their Indiana Law experiences, and provide in-depth information about the Law School and the Bloomington community.

Also, you should plan to attend 1L Orientation on August 22. Class will begin on Tuesday, August 23.

What to Do Next

Follow these steps to prepare yourself for law school and living in Bloomington.

  1. Reply

    We do not require a deposit to secure a place in the entering class, but you must let us know whether you intend to enroll by the date specified in your admission letter. The availability of positions for other applicants depends on prompt responses from those of you whom have already been admitted. If you do not notify us by the specified date, we will release your seat to another applicant. If more time is needed to make your decision, please let us know. It may be possible for the reply date to be extended.

  2. Submit Final Transcript

    A final and official transcript must be forwarded to us at the end of your undergraduate work. Thranscripts provided ny LSAC are unafficial.aThe transcript should indicate all grades received, as well as the date the degree was conferred. You will not be able to register until this information is provided.

  3. Submit Photograph

    The school requires a photograph to be included in your student file. This file will document your entire law school career. Send the photo with your reply to our offer of admission. Photos may be electronic; color or black-and-white.

  4. Create Network Account

    We will send you a letter that identifies your Indiana University Identification Number and instructions for accessing the IU Account Management System. With this information you will be able to create a network account, e-mail address, and access registration and financial information online.

  5. Submit FAFSA

    If you will be applying for federal student loans, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It is best to complete the FAFSA before March 1. You can access the FAFSA on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov and should have your 2010 income and asset information available for reference. Loan confirmations for the the 2011-2012 academic year will be sent as soon as possible. Questions can be directed to Paul Leopold, Director of Financial Aid, at pleopold@indiana.edu.

  6. Find Housing

    Details on favorite law student housing options will be sent by mail. Additionally, listings of summer sublets and roommate opportunities are listed on this site. If you would like to advertise for a roommate, contact Dani Weatherford at maweathe@indiana.edu.

  7. Visit the School

    You are encouraged to visit the campus and attend a first-year law class. Options include: private visits, Spring Law Day and open houses. Private visits are arranged on an individual basis and tours are conducted by current law students. Contact the Admissions Office at 812-855-4765 to schedule a visit.

  8. Meet Alumni

    During the spring and summer, the Law School will host networking receptions across the country. These receptions are a great way to meet alumni, current students and future classmates from your city. Watch for e-mail invitations and annoucements.

  9. Review Laptop Requirement

    The Law School requires that new students have a laptop computer.
