Admitted Students

Congratulations on being admitted to Indiana Law! Our staff is available to help you make a smooth transition to law school. Several members of the Indiana Law community—including current students and alumni—will contact you by telephone and e-mail to answer your questions, share their Indiana Law experiences, and provide in-depth information about the Law School and the Bloomington community.

What to Do Next

Follow these steps to prepare yourself for law school and living in Bloomington.

  1. Reply

We do not require a deposit to secure a place in the entering class, but you must let us know whether you intend to enroll by the date specified in your admission letter. If you do not notify us by the specified date, we will make your seat available to another student. Let us know if you need more time to make your decision.

    Submit your reply to:
    Admissions Office
    Indiana University School of Law
    211 S. Indiana Avenue
    Bloomington, IN 47405
E-mail: lawadmis [at] indiana [dot] edu

  2. Submit Final Transcript

At the end of your baccalaureate work, you must send us a final official transcript from your undergraduate institution. (Transcripts provided by LSDAS are not considered official transcripts.) You will not be able to register until we have received your official transcript.

  3. Submit Photograph

Send a photograph of yourself with your reply to our offer of admission. Photos may be electronic; color or black-and-white.

  4. Submit FAFSA

If you will be applying for federal student loans, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It is best to complete the FAFSA before March 1. You can access the FAFSA on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov and should have your 2008 income and asset information available for reference. Loan confirmations for the the 2009-2010 academic year will be sent as soon as possible. Questions can be directed to Jim Schutter, Director of Financial Aid, at jischutt@indiana.edu.

  5. Create Network Account

We will send you a letter soon with your Indiana University ID number and instructions for accessing the IU account management system. With this information you will be able to create a network account, e-mail address, and access registration and financial information online.

  6. Review Laptop Requirement

The Law School requires that new students have a laptop computer.

  7. Find Housing

Details on favorite law student housing options will be sent by mail. Additionally, listings of summer sublets and roommate opportunities are listed on this site. If you would like to advertise for a roommate, contact Dani Weatherford at maweathe@indiana.edu.

  8. Visit the School

You are encouraged to visit the campus and attend a first-year law class. Options include: private visits, Spring Law Day and open houses. Private visits are arranged on an individual basis and tours are conducted by current law students. Contact the Admissions Office at 812-855-4765 to schedule a visit.

  9. Meet Alumni

During the spring and summer, the Law School will host networking receptions across the country. These receptions are a great way to meet alumni, current students and future classmates from your city. Watch for e-mail invitations and annoucements.
