Baker & Daniels establishes Pro Bono Fellowships at the Law School

Law Student Baker & Daniels, LLP, has donated $10,000 to fund two Pro Bono Fellows who will develop and coordinate pro bono opportunities for law students with Baker & Daniels attorneys, as well as with other attorneys in the community. The Fellows will work closely with the School's clinical faculty to hold an annual pro bono fair to showcase public interest and pro bono opportunities, liaise with the Office of Career and Professional Development and student organizations, and administer aspects of the School's pro bono program. In addition, the Fellows will work with the pro bono coordinator and attorneys at Baker & Daniels to engage students on pro bono projects directed by the attorneys.

"This gift enables a significant increase in the School's public interest service," Dean Robel said. "The formal pro bono program will better recognize the public service our students already engage in and allow us to instill the professional obligation of pro bono service throughout the community.

"It also heralds a closer relationship with Baker & Daniels, which already sponsors the Student Pro Bono Award, given annually to the graduating student who reports the highest number of pro bono hours donated during law school, and which donates its summer associate resources to case coverage for the Disability Law Clinic during the summer."

Applications for the Baker & Daniels Pro Bono Fellowships are now being accepted. Two fellows, one a rising 2L and one a rising 3L, will be selected annually. Interested students should e-mail a cover letter, including a statement of interest and a resume to Carwina Weng (wengc@indiana.edu) by Friday, March 28.
