Leonard Dennis Fromm, 70, of Bloomington, Indiana passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the Indiana University Health Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 2, 2013.
He was born on August 16, 1942 in Harlan, Iowa to his late beloved mother, Delphine (Loehr) Fromm and the late Leonard William Fromm of Defiance, Iowa.
Len received his B.A. in Philosophy from Conception College in 1965, having originally pursued his studies as a math and engineering student at Creighton University in 1960. Additionally, he received his M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Marquette University in 1967, and J.D. from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1977. He was also A.B.D. in the field of Higher Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Len spent the last 33 years as the Associate Dean for Students and Alumni Affairs at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana. It was a position he described as his "dream job" in that it enabled him to use all aspects of his diverse academic background in his service to students, the law school, and university community at large.
Len loved spending time with his children, actively nurturing their interests and gifts while serving as a gentle guide and mentor as they pursued their own unique and personal journey into adulthood. He was a loving son, brother, husband, and father; his ability to impart wisdom, combined with his gentle and caring nature, was inspirational to his family, as well as countless law school students and staff.
Len was an avid golfer, when time allowed, and especially enjoyed his excursions with friend and colleague, Daniel Conkle. He was fortunate to direct and teach in the University of San Diego Summer Law Program in Ireland, California, and Italy, which led to the eventual discovery of his favorite course — The European Club, Brittas Bay, County Wicklow, Ireland.
But Len took the greatest joy in attending his children's band performances and basketball games at both the high school and college level. He was a proud supporter of Bloomington High South Basketball and Music programs, Indiana University, and the Butler University Basketball Program.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Wilber-Fromm, whom he married in Wayne, Pennsylvania on June 4, 1983; daughter, Callan Katerina Fromm of Bloomington, IN; son, Erik Donovan Fromm of Indianapolis, IN; brother, Robert Leo Fromm and sister-in-law, Bobbie Fromm, of Hobe Sound, FL; sister, Peg Fromm (Steve Sarkis) of Bloomington, MN; mother-in-law, Patricia Boyle Wilber of Bluffton, SC; sisters-in-law, Karen Wessel (Lewis) of Hilton Head, SC, and Michele Garkusha (George) of Thomasville, NC; brother-in-law, Donn Wilber of Lexington, NC; nieces, Allison Fromm of Tampa, Florida, Emily Wessel Farr (Dave) of Charlotte, NC, Jennifer Wessel Grand (James) of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Allison Wessel of Chicago, IL., Larisa Garkusha of Thomasville, NC, and Valentina Wilber of Potomac, MD; nephews, Joe Kirby of Lincoln, NE, Mark Garkusha of New York, NY, Timothy Garkusha of New York, NY, Sean Wilber of Boone, NC, and Luca Wilber of Boone, NC; his godson, John Fromm of Defiance, Iowa; as well as several cousins and friends whom he loved.
