Bruce Y.H. Liao, LL.M.,'01, S.J.D.,'03
I obtained the S.J.D. degree from Indiana University School of
Law—Bloomington in 2003. Since then, I have been a law faculty member
and social reform activist in Taiwan. The Central News Agency announced
me as one of "the 2006 Top 10 Rising Stars in Taiwan" then. It goes
without saying that this achievement should be attributed to IU Law
School and the faculty members thereof. Teachers of this great law
school taught me how to "think globally, work locally." Also, the
wonderful experiences in IU law school made me understand that law is
inherently multiperspectival; learning and practicing law therefore
become a very challenging and intriguing task. When I engaged in the
human rights struggle for the oppressed groups in Taiwan, I always
recall how its faculty encouraged and stimulated me. I love the days of
talking with them in classrooms, in their chambers, or even via e-mails.
Days in Bloomington are the most memorable experiences to me; they
became the integral part of my life.
