Computer Facilities and Electronic Resources

The Library has three computer rooms and a laptop room available for use by law students. The laptop room provides network access for those students with laptop computers. Network cards and cables are available for check-out at the Circulation Desk. These rooms provide access to legal databases, word processing and spreadsheet programs and Internet applications, such as E-mail and World Wide Web.

The Library provides access to a number of electronic resources. LEXIS and WESTLAW are available free of charge for law students and faculty, but can be used only for educational purposes. The Library also subscribes to a number of CD-Rom products, many of which are networked and available for searching in all of the computer rooms as well as at dedicated CD-Rom workstations. Interactive CD-Rom programs are available that are designed to teach legal skills by simulating real-life lawyering situations. The World Wide Web is an increasingly important electronic tool for legal research. Internet instruction is offered throughout the school year.

For additional information about these services, please consult the Law Library Guide.

Interlibrary Loan

Frequently, material can be borrowed from another library if the Law Library does not have it in its collection and it is not located at another library on campus. There is sometimes a charge by the lending library for photocopying as well as for borrowed material. The Library also has a fax machine for rush requests.

Exam File

The Library maintains a collection of past Law School exams for students to review. Whether or not old exams for a particular course are kept in the Library Exam File is the decision of the individual faculty member teaching the course. Law School exams are also available through the Library's website. Because it is available exclusively to IU Law School students and faculty through the web, it is password protected.
