FACULTY OFFICE COPIES::

The Faculty Office Copy Program was developed by the Law Library to assist each faculty member in obtaining materials that, because of their heavy use or importance, are not available from the Law Library on long-term loan to a faculty member. The establishment of the program endeavors to alleviate the disruption caused by competing with others for essential volumes. The materials purchased through this program are added as duplicate copies to the Law Library collection, but are housed in the faculty member's office. Although a librarian may from time to time borrow the material for short periods, these items are not available for recall by other library patrons.

The Library makes every effort to respond to these special needs for research materials. Because this service is not separately funded, however, it requires juggling the continuing needs of the whole Library with the important needs of the law faculty. And it is important to note that in order to protect faculty offices copies from being recalled, the Library always purchases two copies of each title, thus incurring twice the cost. Consequently, when a faculty member requests lower-use or esoteric items that may not be requested by others, the Library will first circulate the Library’s copy to the faculty member for an indefinite loan period. If it is found that the item is needed by others more than occasionally and this arrangement is unworkable for the faculty member, a second copy will be purchased as a faculty office copy.

Faculty should direct requests or questions either to Dick Vaughan or Colleen Pauwels.
