What Can We Do for You?
A commitment to public service is central to the legal profession and to our educational mission. Our students, staff, and faculty are deeply involved in providing legal services to underrepresented groups and to meeting the needs of public-sector and public-interest organizations.
- Law Library: The Law Library is open to law students, faculty, and anyone using the law collection. Our outstanding library staff can assist you in using the collection and directing you to legal sources. (They cannot, however, provide legal advice.) Direct your questions to the reference desk by e-mail at liblaw@indiana.edu or by phone at (812) 855-2938, or visit the Law Library at 211 S. Indiana Ave.
- The Community Legal Clinic provides legal assistance to low-income residents of Monroe County, Indiana, on a range of family law issues. Student interns represent indigent clients on matters such as divorce, custody, child abuse, and child neglect. You can reach the CLC by phone at (812) 855-9229 or by fax at (812) 855-5128.
- The Protective Order Project helps victims of domestic abuse obtain civil protective orders from the court, with the ultimate goal of preventing further abuse.
- Inmate Legal Assistance Project: Volunteers in the Inmate Legal Assistance Project travel to the federal prison in Terre Haute to meet directly with inmates to resolve their problems with the institution.
- Legal Services Organization Assistance Project: Volunteers provide legal aid to the indigent through the local office of the Legal Services Organization. Legal Services Organizations (not part of the School of Law) can be reached at (812) 339-7668 or (800) 822-4774.
- Outreach for Legal Literacy: OLL is a volunteer program that sends law students into area elementary schools to teach fifth-graders about the law. The goal is to sharpen children's logic and oral skills while teaching them about American history, the legal system, and their role as citizens.
