Protective Order Project (POP)

POP is a student-directed project at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law designed to help victims of domestic abuse obtain civil protective orders from the court, with the goal of preventing further abuse, both by restraining the abuser and by empowering the victim.

What Are Protective Orders?

Protective orders are an effective means of preventing domestic violence in most cases, because they enable the police to take action before violence occurs. POP utilizes the skills of law students, the advice and assistance of private volunteer attorneys, and the resources of Middle Way House, to serve victims of domestic violence in Monroe County.

If You Need Help Now

If you are in an emergency situation and need immediate assistance, contact the Bloomington or Indiana University Police or the Monroe County Sheriff's Department by calling 911, or contact Middle Way House for crisis services at (812) 336-0846; see links to other services on our Contact POP page.

Our Schedule for Summer 2011

As of July 1 POP will be closed for summer break and no longer accepting new cases; we anticipate resuming in late August. For existing POP clients with current cases, you may leave a message at pop@indiana.edu or 855-4800 or with POP faculty supervisor Prof. Seth Lahn at 855-0905 or slahn@indiana.edu, or with his assistant Beth Plew at 856-2888 or bplew@indiana.edu.
