The financial crisis debate scheduled for Monday, Feb. 8, has been postponed. The event's organizers have rescheduled the event for Monday, Feb. 22, at noon.
ELS will hold a meeting on Monday, Feb. 8, at noon in room 120. The subject of the meeting will be careers in environmental law, and a panel of upperclassmen will share their job experiences and take questions. Lunch will be provided. The Feminist Law Forum (FLF) will be hosting its February meeting at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 9, in room 215. Lunch will be provided. We will be discussing this semester's upcoming events including one of FLF's biggest events of the year, Women in Law Day. Women in Law Day is a full-day event for 25 area high school women to learn about careers in the law. Last year students participated in a mock law class, viewed an oral argument, discussed professional legal attire, and learned about the spectrum of career opportunities for attorneys. OCPD's Career Choices Series continues on Thursday, Feb. 11, with a presentation on careers in solo and small firm practices. Corinne Finnerty, JD'81, and Ted Waggoner, JD'78, will be the featured speakers at this event, which takes place from noon to 1 p.m. in room 122. Lunch will be served, but space is limited to the first 85 students who RSVP on Symplicity.
Monday, Feb. 8, is your last day to purchase tickets for the Barrister's Ball, which takes place Friday, Feb. 12, in Alumni Hall at the Indiana Memorial Union. Professor Joe Hoffmann's "Habeas Corpus for the Twenty-First Century, Chapter One," the introductory chapter to a forthcoming book with Vanderbilt's Nancy King, has been recognized as one of the Social Science Research Network's (SSRN) top-10 recent downloads.

The Black Law Students Association, Federalist Society, and Health Law Society will co-host a debate panel on health care, sponsored by the John Templeton Foundation. Is President Obama's plan sound policy or bad medicine? Debaters will include Doug Bandow, senior fellow at the Cato Institute; Neville Cox, director of post graduate teaching and learning at Trinity College Dublin School of Law; and Indiana Law Professor David P. Fidler. The panel, at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 16, will be moderated by Indiana Law Professor Yvonne Cripps. The event will take place in the Moot Court Room and lunch will be provided.
Indiana University has purchased and is shipping a cargo container to Haiti, filled with generous donations from the Bloomington campus and community. Love is in the air! The Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA) will be selling Valentine's Day grams through Tuesday, Feb. 9, during the noon lunch hour. We will place the gram in the mailbox of your valentine on Thursday, February 11th. A portion of the proceeds will go to Haiti relief efforts.
BARBRI will table from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays for the remainder of the semester. 1Ls can sign up now for any state and lock in your tuition price for your bar review class in 2012 or 2013, as well as get a helpful first-year review book containing a review of all of your required classes for your first year, example outlines, and helpful study questions. The admissions office is expecting an increase in the number of prospective student visitors this semester and will need additional assistance from tour guides. Tour guide responsibilities include escorting prospective students to a class and providing a tour of the Law School building. This is a great way to participate in the building of next year's class. Sponsored by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), this writing competition on copyright law is open to all second- and third-year students at Indiana Law. Two awards ($600 and $250) may be given at each participating law school, and those winning papers will then be forwarded on to the national competition. Additional writing competitions are posted on the contests board across from room 022. A number of Indiana Law students have won previous writing competitions with awards as great as $4,000.
All students who reported pro bono hours during the fall 2009 semester should have received an email indicating total hours reported for fall 2009.
