Gladys DeVane and Janet Cheatham Bell will tell stories of their personal experiences growing up with racial segregation in an event titled "The Time and Place That Gave Me Life." Dean Motley will serve as the moderator and share his experiences growing up with racial segregation. Bell will be available after the talk to sign copies of her recent book. Moot Court Room, noon.
Dan Harris will discuss Pete Bethune, who was arrested and charged with numerous crimes in Japan for attempting to stop whaling. Bethune was the lead character of the TV show Whale Wars. The case involved many cultural, international law, and international media issues and will provide an excellent overview of this practice area. RSVP on Symplicity. Room 213, 4:30-5:30.

On Feb. 27, Professor Rob Fischman joined Secretary of Agriculture Vilsack and another panelist to discuss cooperative federalism and energy development with the governors convened at the National Governors Association's Natural Resources Committee.
The Environmental Law Society is proud to announce that Eric Spengler, Dave LeBeau, and Rachael Steller advanced to the semifinals in the 23rd Annual National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition hosted at Pace Law School the weekend of February 25. Kelly Doordan, who competed last year, served as this year's coach. The team competed against 76 other law schools and over 250 competitors from around the nation to place Indiana Law among the top nine schools during the semifinals.
Team members received many compliments from the quarter and semifinal round judges; additionally, a judge on the quarterfinals panel noted that Eric was the best oralist of the competitors in that round. The team's achievement will appear under our school's name among the 2011 winners on the NELMCC website. Congratulations to Eric, Dave, and Rachael for a well-earned superior achievement!
Congratulations to Drew Tharp and Chris Kozelichki for their excellent oral and written advocacy in the 2011 National Animal Law Competitions at Harvard University. The Student Animal Legal Defense Fund would also like to thank Prof. Jeff Hyman for his indispensable assistance as the team's coach.
