Christian Legal Society (CLS)

The Christian Legal Society at Indiana University Maurer School of Law is a local Christian organization that is not affiliated with any specific church or denomination. The group maintains ties to other religious groups both locally and nationally, including the national Christian Legal Society. We strive to provide interested law students with resources for faith-based issues.

Among the goals and purposes of the CLS at Indiana University School of Law are:

  • Encouraging, mentoring, and aiding law students in the integration of their faith and legal education;
  • Supplying a means of society and fellowship centered on faith among law students;
  • Supplying an opportunity for fellowship centered on faith among law students;
  • Providing a forum for discussing issues related to religion and law;
  • Developing a rapport between student and practitioner members of CLS;
  • Equipping law students with the tools necessary to carry their faith into their legal careers.

All students, regardless of their spiritual background, are welcome to attend and participate in CLS meetings. Our chapter meets regularly for fellowship, prayer, discussion and encouragement in addition to having cookouts, attending retreats, and enjoying game nights. We also strive to show that being a Christian does not mean that our minds are shut off in practicing our faith or law. We do this through sponsoring panel discussions, actively being involved in intergroup activities (both inside and outside of the Law School), and attending conferences. But our continuing goals are to make friends, encourage fellow law students, and above all, grow in our Christian faith.

In His Service,

Caroline Lovett, chair, 2012-2013 academic year
