Older & Wiser Law Students (OWLS)
Older, Wiser Law Students is an organization proving a support system for non-traditional law students, particularly those who are married or have taken time to pursue a career before entering law school. OWLS hosts support meetings for spouses and students with children, assists members in framing and highlighting previous careers and life experiences when searching for employment, and organizes a variety of social events, often including the entire family. The organization also provides peer advice in preparing for exams, as well as balancing the demands of law school with family.
OWLS provides a place for students to network with other non-traditional law students, as well as addressing the unique concerns of this population. A sampling of activities includes:
- lunch gatherings
- a support meeting for the spouses and children of OWLS
- a presentation addressing the best way to highlight previous career experience during the summer job search
- peer advice on preparing for final exams, class selection, and participation in extracurricular activities with significant time demands, such as journal and Moot Court.
