Co-Chair of the Arthur M. Lotz Endowment Campaign
“When I got out of law school, I had $10,000 in debt—a lot of money in those days—but without that money, I couldn’t have made it through the Law School. Now the cost of a legal education is many times greater. To attract the best possible students to the Law School, we need strong endowments to provide scholarship support.”
The Fund for Excellence, the IU Maurer School of Law's annual giving program, provides the dean with the flexibility to enhance the academic and co-curricular programs and initiatives that make the crucial difference between an adequate education and a truly excellent education.
Every gift to the Fund for Excellence is critical to the success of the Law School. Strong evidence of alumni support helps the school leverage funding from other sources. Corporations, foundations, and potential major gift donors often look at alumni participation rates when deciding whether to award grants or make significant donations to the school. In the 2010 fiscal year, the Fund for Excellence received more than $1.1 million: a record amount, and a 16% increase over the 2009 Fund.
Gifts to the Fund for Excellence support essential programs at Indiana Law, including co-curricular activities, general scholarships, student services, the law library, faculty support, and various new initiatives. Give now to the Fund for Excellence.
Donors in this society have been touched in some way through their contact with the Maurer School of Law and their experiences have have inspired them to reach out and help others. The 21st Century Society honors those valued friends and alumni who demonstrate an ongoing commitment through annual gifts to the Fund for Excellence of $1,000 or more. The Law School is grateful for their loyalty and proudly recognizes them annually in the Honor Roll of Donors.
Partners in Excellence enable the Law School to plan for the future of mission-critical programs by pledging their sustained support to the School in the amount of $2,500 or more per year over a period of five years. The support of our Partners in Excellence makes possible the services and programs that distinguish the Maurer School of Law from its peers. The Law School deeply appreciates the investment of this elite group of donors. Partners in Excellence have a close connection to the school and are recognized by:
Our alumni volunteer in numerous capacities, from suggesting a prospective student apply to joining one of our advisory boards. Involved alumni are the people who drive our Campaign Cabinet and our Fund for Excellence (as Class Agents and Law Firm and Corporate Solicitors).
As Class Agents for the Fund For Excellence, our alumni volunteers communicate personally with classmates to maintain a strong connection between the Law School and its graduates. Class Agents solicit classmates by phone and in writing, and enjoy the opportunity to keep in touch with former classmates. Some have served in this capacity for many years. Class Agents are listed along with their class in Indiana Law’s annual Dean’s Report.
The Law Firm and Corporate Challenge program is open to law firms and corporations that employ three or more Indiana Law alumni. Each participating firm or corporation has a volunteer representative or representatives who solicit annual gifts from the Maurer School of Law alumni at their organization. Gifts must be received by June 30 to count towards the fiscal year total. The goal is to achieve 100% participation in the Fund for Excellence from Indiana Law alumni during the fiscal year. Organizations with 100% participation and the highest total dollars raised are recognized in the annual Dean’s Report, and are listed on an plaque prominently displayed in the Office of Career and Professional Development.
