Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition*
The Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition is a student-run program in written and appellate oral advocacy. The majority of the second-year class participates in this annual competition, which is also open to third-year students who have not previously competed. Students gain valuable skills, and a fuller appreciation of the nature of argument, legal representation, and jurisprudence, by researching and writing an appellate brief and engaging in at least three rounds of oral arguments. Our alumni, and other legal practitioners and judges from around the country, donate their time and lend valuable insight to the students to serving as competition judges.
From the approximately 128 students who enter the fall rounds, thirty-two competitors are chosen to advance to the spring rounds based on their combined written and oral advocacy scores. Briefs are scored by students on the Sherman Minton Moot Court Board; oral arguments are scored solely by visiting judges.
Congratulations to Our Winners
John T. Schlafer and Brian R. DeHem, both 2Ls, topped fellow competitors Christina L. Clark and Francis Granados, to win in the final argument of the 2007-2008 Sherman Minton Moot Court competition. Congratuations to all our competitors for the year.
Thank You to the 2008 Moot Court Judges
The Sherman Minton Moot Court Board would like to thank all of the alumni, faculty, community members, and other friends of the Moot Court competition who volunteered their time, both in the Fall and Spring rounds, to make this year's competition a success. This year we had well over a hundred different individuals offer their valuable time to the competition by judging competitors and providing them with feedback and advice regarding effective advocacy. The quality of judging this year was excellent, and we hope you will return again in the future.
Thanks again!
