Alumni Board Nominations

The Nominating Committee of the Alumni Board annually solicits names of alumni to be considered for membership on the Law School's Alumni Board. The Alumni Board is the board of directors for the Indiana University Maurer School of Law Alumni Association and consists of active members who support the Dean, the administration, and the faculty. The Board directs the work and activities of the Law Alumni Association, and interacts with all aspects of the Law School's operations. The Board meets three times a year; two meetings are in Bloomington (fall and spring) and one is in Indianapolis (winter). New member terms begin in January and last for three years with the possibility of renomination for a second term thereafter. To be slated as a nominee, an alumna or alumnus should have a proven interest and enthusiasm in the continued success of the Law School. Specific activities demonstrating this include but are not limited to:

  • Interviewing prospective students
  • Encouraging or persuading highly recruited admitted students, by written communication, phone calls, or meeting with them, to matriculate
  • Judging or organize a team to judge Moot Court
  • Participating in resume reviews through the Office of Career & Professional Development
  • Participating in the alumni shadowing and mentoring program
  • Helping students to develop interviewing skills through participation in the mock interview program
  • Participating in Career Choices workshops and panels
  • Working with graduates to find employment
  • Encouraging your employer to participate in On Campus interviewing or National Law Consortium hiring programs
  • Participating in the interviewing process and personally hiring a student or graduate for a full-time positon or for a project or on a limited contract basis
  • Hosting an alumni reception at your workplace
  • Attending an alumni reception in your area
  • Helping to create or sustain the activities of an Indiana Law Society in your area
  • Serving on an advisory board
  • Donating financially to the Law School

A nomination should include a letter clearly describing how a nominee has shown an interest in the Law School as well as what qualities he or she will bring to the board. This letter should be accompanied by a current resume and optional letters of support. Self nominations are also welcome. All nominations are due by August 15 each year to Andrea Havill, Assistant Dean for External Affairs and Alumni Relations, by e-mail at ahavill@indiana.edu or by postal mail at:
