Exploring the Intersections
Lukasz Lasek, LLM (Thesis)'12

Lukasz Lasek first visited the Maurer School of Law as an exchange student in the fall of 2010 and decided to come back and earn an LLM.

Why Study Law in the U.S.? "My study in the U.S. is giving me a broader perspective on the law. I am learning to evaluate laws of other countries, which will help me better understand the laws of Poland."

Legal Intersections. "I've become fascinated with the intersections between the law and other fields of study. Last fall I studied international trade with Prof. David Fidler, constitutional law with Prof. Daniel Conkle, and information privacy law with Professor Fred Cate. This year I am taking IP and antitrust with Prof. Donald Knebel, patent law with Prof. Mark Janis, and the IP colloquium with Prof. Marshall Leaffer. These courses are giving me new perspectives on the relationships between law and international trade and law and human rights. This will be very helpful to me when I return home and begin practicing."

The Faculty's International Expertise. "I was also attracted to Indiana Law because of its internationally known faculty. Prof. Paul Craig is well-known in Europe as an expert on European Union law. In fact, many of my professors in Poland consider him as the most eminent scholar in this field and recommend his textbook for studying EU law. I had the opportunity to meet with Prof. Craig and talk about my research project. His advice was very valuable and helpful. I've also appreciated the support and attention from my other professors. It's a real privilege to associate with such distinguished faculty members."

On Life in Bloomington. "Bloomington is a great town. It's small, cozy, and green, with lots of things to do — sports, culture, restaurants. I've met people from all over the world. And my thanks to Dean Lesley Davis and Lara Gose for making the whole process of moving to Bloomington easy and stress-free."
