Kathleen Claussen comes to the Maurer School of Law in 2013 from the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague where she serves as Legal Counsel. Her teaching and research focus on U.S. and international commercial arbitration, international investment law, public international law, and federalism.

While in law school, Claussen was co-editor-in-chief of the Yale Journal of International Law, chairperson of the Yale Forum on International Law, and a Howard M. Holtzmann Fellow for International Dispute Resolution. She also led Yale's Public Interest Law Initiative and edited a volume of articles on federalism and the public interest.

Before joining the Permanent Court of Arbitration in 2011, Claussen clerked for the Honorable David F. Hamilton of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. She was a Brandon Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge's Lauterpacht Centre for International Law and attended the Hague Academy for Public International Law. She has served as Assistant Chief of Staff to a Member of the European Parliament, an intern at the International Criminal Court, and a visiting researcher at the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies.

Claussen's prior teaching experiences include creating a new course in the Hutton Honors College at Indiana University, for which she is a member of the Alumni Board of Directors, and serving as a Coker Fellow for first-year Civil Procedure at Yale Law School. Claussen is also a Corresponding Editor for International Legal Materials, produced by the American Society of International Law.
