Accelerated Master's Program

Earn your undergraduate and Master of Legal Studies degrees in five years

Get a headstart on your Master of Legal Studies degree through our Accelerated Master's Program.

How does it work? Any student currently enrolled in any IUB undergraduate program may apply to our MLS program, take our fundamentals courses as undergrad electives, pay the undergraduate tuition rate, and get up to 10 hours of overlapping undergrad and graduate credit.

Get prepared

Our Accelerated Master’s Program is a highly competitive opportunity for outstanding IUB undergraduates. If you are interested in the program, you’ll need to meet early and regularly with an Undergraduate Academic Advisor to ensure proper planning and eligibility.

Interested students should submit a statement of academic intent at least one year prior to their intended AMP start and be on track to complete a minimum of 96 credit hours including major courses as specified by an Undergraduate Academic Advisor.

All Accelerated Master’s Program candidates must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA and be on track to complete all minors, certificates, general education, internship, and honors thesis requirements, if applicable, prior to starting the Accelerated Master’s Program.

Apply as an undergrad

Most students apply in their second or third year, once they've identified a graduate program that fits their goals.

Start MLS courses early

Once admitted, you’ll take approved master’s-level courses while finishing your bachelor’s degree—these courses often count toward both degrees.

Finish your MLS

After completing your undergraduate requirements, you’ll continue as a graduate student to finish your remaining master’s coursework—usually in just one additional year.

Application checklist

Apply online. On the application, you will be asked to answer some general questions about your interest in the program.

The Law School requires two letters of recommendation to submitted directly through Indiana University Graduate Centralized Application Services. While strong preference is given to letters from faculty members who are familiar with your academic strength and can attest to your ability to undertake a rigorous course of study, we gladly welcome letters from employers or individuals who know you professionally.

Applicants must submit a 2–3-page, double-spaced statement that explains one’s goals, academic and professional interests, and qualifications for pursuing the MLS degree. Statements should be clearly written, well-organized, and highlight the special strengths and experiences that you would bring to our Law School.

Upload your resume or CV to the online application as a PDF document.

All IUB applicants should upload transcripts in the ‘Academic History’ of the online application. Be sure to include a transcript for all institutions attended. If admitted, an official copy of your transcript will be required to start course work at the Law School.

Financial aid

Accelerated Master’s Program candidates will remain eligible for undergraduate funds until the completion of their bachelor’s degree. Financial aid and other funding award opportunities may be available after graduating from the undergraduate program.

Recipients of the Dean's, Provost's, IU Global Engagement Scholarship, or Office of Enrollment Management Scholarship who complete their undergraduate degree(s) in fewer than eight semesters may apply the remaining semesters of their award toward graduate coursework at IU Bloomington through the Pathways Scholarship Program.
